Published bi-annually by the Harvard Graduate School of Design, HDM provides critical explorations of key contemporary issues and practices related to the built environment and the quality of life connected to it. Essays, images, discussions, interviews, book reviews, and columns of criticism on recent projects, as well as on design, practice and design education, will appear regularly

The magazine's goal is to provide a forum for thoughtful and articulate practitioners, journalists, and academics, primarily from the disciplines of architecture, landscape architecture, and urban design and planning.
